GOD KNITS

January 23, 2013

crochetI decided not to write yesterday.  Anniversary’s of public events seem to bring out the best and worst in people.  But that changed last night as I became hypnotized and inspired by my wife’s skill at knitting.  (She says it’s crocheting but it all looks the same to me).

In and out, pulling and weaving, she manipulated the multi-colored yarn into row after row.  Not each the same, she varied her stitches between standard stitches, chain stitches and double treble patterns.  (I impress myself with my ‘yarn-ology’).  Occasionally, she would stop, hold up her progress and exclaim, “Isn’t that wonderful?!”  To which I had only one answer.  “Absolutely.”

God knits.  Intricately looping and plaiting the fabric of life into being.  He takes his time with each one.  To him, a small detail is a big deal. Different rows come to life.  Different stitching for different purposes but all hand-made and inspired by the Master.

That’s how you are knit together.  Purposefully, intentionally, beautifully by the hands of God.  He takes time and focus to see that the stitches that make up your life are in the places that lead to his ultimate purposes.  To you, your stitch may itch at times.  To you, your row might feel out of place but remember that the Hand that weaves is the Hand that loves.

So lean into your stitching.  Feel the bumps and curves and textures that border your life.  Know that each of your yarns are in places that can be used.  Trust in the One who needle-worked you in the first place and remember that God knits.

  2. Thank you, Todd, I really needed that. May you and your precious family be blessed abundantly this new year.

  3. Wonderful, as usual, Todd. I love the way you’ve described the continuation of the knitting. Psalm 139 is a long-time favorite, especially verses 13 & 16.

I always love your blog posts and follow each one. For some reason I cannot explain this hit particularly close to home today and was exactly what my soul was needing to hear. Thank you.
