The Makenzie Moments have lessened their frequency. The hurt that comes is diminished. “Time is the healer of all wounds,” they say, but I’ve found that not all wounds heal. Some are constantly picked over making the sting of loss real again. The “picker” that comes to mind this morning struts around disguised as NUMB3RS.
… 3 …
The 3rd of March; of December; of August; It doesn’t matter. It is the 3rd that marks the day that my precious Makenzie stepped out of this world and into eternity. As of this 3rd, it has been 9 months since the accident.
… 9 …
9 months that the Lord stitched the fabric of Makenzie together in the safe place of her mother’s womb. 9 months of close connection and now 9 months separation to which the remaining 4 in our family have had to adjust.
… 4 …
4 plates at the table instead of five. The 4 of us going to a movie; the 4 of us watching American Idol. It’s only the 4 of us. I’m still getting use to just the 4 of us and I’m sensing that it will never feel complete. I love the 4 of us but still miss the 1.
… 1 …
1 life having such an impact on so many. 1 person making others feel valued, worthy and loved. 1 person sacrificing reputation, popularity, status and comfort so that other’s can know what it is to truly LIVE. That 1 is the One with whom Makenzie dances on streets of gold. His name is Jesus … and He calms my NUMB3RS.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7
